How to Calculate Net Salary in Colombia in 2026: Health, Pension, Solidarity Fund, and Withholding Tax
A guide to reading your 2026 pay stub: contribution base, health and pension deductions, solidarity fund, withholding tax under Article 383, and how to write your salary in a job posting.

Quick answer: the gross salary, the contribution base income, and the net amount that reaches your account are three different numbers. A dependent worker has 4% deducted for health and 4% for pension from the base; the solidarity fund only applies from 4 minimum wages, and withholding tax depends on a table in UVT. Figures checked on October 15, 2026.
The most common situation is that someone signs a contract for a certain amount and, upon seeing the first pay stub, asks why it doesn't match. This guide teaches you how to read that document, not how to replace your company's payroll. And if you are hiring, at the end I explain how to write the salary in a job posting so nobody asks you the same thing twenty times.
What is in effect in the 2026 payroll
- Minimum wage: $1.750.905. Heads up: Decree 159 of 2026 set it on a temporary basis while the Council of State decides the nullity lawsuit, so it may change with that ruling (Decree 159 of 2026).
- Transportation allowance: $249.095 for those who earn up to two minimum wages, where there is public transportation service. If there is no commute to the workplace, the digital connectivity allowance replaces it and is not paid as an additional benefit (Decree 1470 of 2025).
- UVT: $52.374 (DIAN Resolution 000238 of 2025).
- Maximum workweek: 42 hours per week since July 15, 2026, without reducing the monthly salary.
Step 1: build the contribution base
The ordinary salary, commissions, overtime, and surcharges are included. The legal transportation allowance is not added to the health and pension base as if it were salary; it is paid separately.
Bonuses are the slipperiest ground. A payment agreed as non-salary income can fall outside the base only within the rules of article 128 of the Substantive Labor Code and the cap of Law 1393 of 2010. A poorly structured agreement ends up contributing anyway. I would not assume that any bonus with that name is free of deductions: ask your employer to explain in writing what it is based on.
Separate case: in integral salary, UGPP takes 70% of the integral salary as the contribution base. This is not the rule for an ordinary salary.
Step 2: worker social security deductions
From the contribution base income, the following is deducted:
- Health: 4%.
- Pension: 4%.
- Pension solidarity fund: only if your base reaches 4 minimum wages (UGPP expresses it as $7.003.620 for the start of 2026). October 2026 scale: 1% from 4 up to 16 SMMLV, 1.2% from 16 to 17, 1.4% from 17 to 18, 1.6% from 18 to 19, 1.8% from 19 to 20, and 2% above 20.
The new scale of Law 2381 of 2024 (1.5% to 3%) is not the one on your pay stub today: it applies from April 1, 2027, according to Ruling C-264/26 and PILA operators.
The 8.5% health and 12% pension that the employer pays, plus ARL and compensation fund, do not come out of your net. If you are interested in that cost for the company, it is in the calculadora de costos laborales y parafiscales del empleador.
There are other deductions that are neither taxes nor contributions, such as a garnishment; that is a different story, and we explain it in embargo de salario y límite inembargable. And watch out: the employer cannot deduct anything from you without a written order from you or a judicial warrant.

Step 3: withholding tax (article 383)
Withholding is marginal: it is only charged on the portion that exceeds each bracket, and on the income already net of allowable deductions. Table in UVT:
| Monthly taxable income (UVT) | Marginal rate |
|---|---|
| Up to 95 | 0% |
| Over 95 to 150 | 19% |
| Over 150 to 360 | 28% plus 10 UVT |
| Over 360 to 640 | 33% plus 69 UVT |
| Over 640 to 945 | 35% plus 162 UVT |
| Over 945 to 2,300 | 37% plus 268 UVT |
| Over 2,300 | 39% plus 770 UVT |
The brackets do not change with the UVT; what changes is their equivalent in pesos. If you want to know how much 95 UVT equals, multiply 95 by $52.374: that is your own calculation, not a figure printed by the DIAN. Someone who earns the minimum wage, with or without the allowance, does not reach that bracket.
A common confusion: the annual cap of 40% and 1,340 UVT in article 336 applies to the net income in the annual tax return, not to the monthly withholding base. Do not subtract it every month. Support documents for dependents or prepaid medicine only change the base if you provided them and the employer applied them under articles 387 and 388. And withholding does not replace filing your income tax return.
Illustration: the minimum wage, without a simulator
This is only example arithmetic, not an official net figure. With the minimum of $1.750.905: subtract 4% for health and 4% for pension (8% in total), with no solidarity fund and no withholding tax, and add the $249.095 allowance separately. What actually arrives may vary due to payroll rounding, other authorized deductions, and the support documents you have provided.
To see how much that same minimum wage costs the person hiring, read el costo de un empleado con salario mínimo para el empleador. It is a different calculation, with different numbers.
If you are a contractor, it is not the same pay stub
Someone who provides services does not receive a salaried employee's pay stub. For work income without an employment relationship, the article 383 withholding is monthlyized: the contract amount is taken, mandatory health and pension contributions are subtracted, and the result is divided by the months of the contract. In addition, all payments received in the month must be taken into account. The contractor may also ask in writing for a higher rate, but I cannot promise it will always be in your interest. With doubtful calculations, confirm with an accountant.
The 42-hour workweek does not reduce your salary
Since July 15, 2026, the maximum ordinary workweek is 42 hours per week (it used to be 44). Law 2101 of 2021 prohibits reducing salary because of that reduction, and anyone who already worked fewer hours does not suffer any additional cut. That reduction alone does not lower your net pay.
If you post a job opening: state the salary clearly
An ad that just says "good salary" attracts questions, not résumés. Make clear:
- whether the offered amount is gross or net;
- whether or not it includes the transportation allowance;
- the modality (on-site or no commute) and the work area;
- a direct contact.
This answers the typical objection: the 4% for health and pension is not a charge from any platform, it is the law, and the final net depends on the pay stub. According to active listings on Colombia Move (October 14, 2026), the job categories of educación y operativos have no active listings, while tecnología has 2 and marketing has 3.
I will close with one piece of advice: keep every pay stub and compare it with your PILA payroll record. It is the most reliable way to detect errors, much more than a calculator that reaches you via WhatsApp.
Frequently asked questions
❓ How much is deducted for health and pension in 2026?
A dependent worker has 4% deducted for health and 4% for pension from the contribution base income. The employer separately contributes 8.5% for health and 12% for pension, and that does not come out of your net. (verify with the official source)
❓ Does the $249.095 transportation allowance count toward net pay and the pension base?
It is paid separately to those who earn up to two minimum wages and is not added as salary to the health and pension base. If there is no commute, the digital connectivity allowance replaces it and is not paid twice. (verify with the official source)
❓ From what salary am I subject to withholding tax?
The article 383 rate is 0% up to 95 UVT of taxable income already net of allowable deductions. With the UVT of $52.374, you can multiply yourself to see the bracket; the 2026 minimum wage does not reach that level. (verify with the official source)
❓ Will the solidarity fund be deducted if I earn the minimum wage?
No. It starts when your base income reaches 4 minimum wages, with a scale of 1% to 2% in effect before April 1, 2027, when the new scale of Law 2381 is expected. (verify with the official source)
❓ Does a "non-salary" bonus increase my net pay without deductions?
Only if it truly fits the payments that are not salary under article 128 of the Substantive Labor Code and the legal limits. A poorly structured agreement can end up contributing anyway, so ask for written support. (verify with the official source)
❓ Is it certain that the 42-hour workweek will lower my salary from July 2026?
No. Law 2101 of 2021 prohibits reducing salary because of the reduction in the maximum workweek, and anyone who already worked fewer hours does not suffer any additional cut. (verify with the official source)
❓ Where is the 1,340 UVT cap subtracted: every month on the pay stub?
No. The DIAN applies that cap and the 40% in article 336 to annual net income of the general schedule, not to the monthly withholding base. (verify with the official source)
