Cali is creating jobs like it hasn't in almost two decades, and more and more Caleños are looking for part-time y work-from-home options to study, care for their family, or earn extra income. This is a real, updated guide for 2026: how much is paid, where to search, which sectors hire without experience, and—very importantly—how not to fall for the "work from home" scams that circulate on WhatsApp.

How is the job market in Cali today (2026)

The numbers are in favor of job seekers. According to DANE, Cali closed 2025 with an unemployment rate of 7.3% in the October–December quarter, the lowest in 19 years. The metropolitan area reached 1,154,232 employed persons, about 47,544 more than a year ago—the highest growth among the country's major metropolitan areas.

  • Youth unemployment: dropped to 14.5%, a recent historic low, although it remains almost double the general rate. If you are young, the competition is real, but there are more vacancies than before.
  • Informality: 47.6% of the employed are in the informal sector—high, but below the national average (~55%). That is why it is worth aiming for formal jobs and reliable channels.

More and more Caleños are looking for part-time jobs and remote work from their cell phones.

How much do part-time jobs pay in Cali? (2026 salary)

The floor is set by law. For 2026 the monthly minimum wage (SMMLV) is $1,750,905, plus a transportation subsidy of $249,095 for those who earn up to two minimum wages: a base income of about $2,000,000. The hourly rate with the minimum wage is equivalent to around $7,961 (220-hour work month).

For part-time work the salary is proportional to the hours: half-time pays at least half the minimum wage (about $875,452 in 2026). Something key that many ignore: even working part-time you keep all your rights —bonus, severance, vacation, social security, and proportional transportation subsidy. Paying less than that proportional amount is illegal.

The sectors that hire the most in Cali (and where to enter without experience)

If you are looking for your first job or a quick change, these are the sectors with the most movement:

  • Commerce and vehicle repair: employs about 1 in every 5 employed people in Cali. Plenty of vacancies in sales, cashier positions, warehousing, and customer service.
  • Manufacturing industry and public administration: the other two major employers in the city.
  • Hotels and restaurants: concentrated a good part of the new employment at the end of 2025, driven by the Petronio Álvarez festival, the Salsa World Championship, and the Feria de Cali. Note: a significant part is seasonal, perfect for part-time, but not always permanent.
  • Delivery services (Rappi and similar): flexible income and on-demand. Cali is among the cities with the most delivery drivers in the country; it is an option to generate quick money while you find something fixed.

Call center and BPO: the fastest door to formal employment in Cali

If you want a formal contract without experience, the call center / BPO sector is historically the fastest entry point in Cali. It usually only asks for a high school diploma, accepts people without experience, provides training upon hiring, and pays around the minimum wage plus subsidies and bonuses. The sector employs more than 754,000 people in Colombia and concentrates thousands of vacancies in Bogotá, Medellín, Cali and Barranquilla, many of them without experience.

Do you speak English or Portuguese (B2 level)? That changes the game: bilingual campaigns pay significantly more and many offer a hybrid or work-from-home model after training.

Working from home in Cali: what is real and what is not

We have to be honest here. 100% remote and formal "work from home" is still a minority: in a sample from elempleo.com, out of 18,594 vacancies only 823 (4.4%) were totally remote; the rest, on-site or hybrid. Most of what appears as "from home" on search engines is, in reality, call center or customer service, and often remote work only comes after on-site training.

Well-paid remote work in dollars exists, but it is concentrated in technology and digital profiles, and is searched for on international platforms like Upwork, We Work Remotely, RemoteOK, or Workana. If you come from the digital world, that is where the best rates are; if you are just starting, it is best to combine: a stable local job + remote clients or gigs to keep growing. We explain it thoroughly in our remote work guide in Colombia.

Where to look for a job in Cali (the platforms that Caleños actually use)

  • Public Employment Service (serviciodeempleo.gov.co): state-run and free, with authorized agencies. The most reliable.
  • Computrabajo, Magneto and elempleo.com: the most used aggregators; filter by "Cali", "part-time" and "from home".
  • LinkedIn: indispensable for professional and remote profiles.
  • Vallemplea and the Mayor's office job fairs: local on-site hiring.
  • Facebook and WhatsApp job groups in Cali: fast, but also the favorite channel for scammers—always verify (we tell you how below).

⚠️ How to recognize a fake job offer (scam alerts)

Fake "work from home" offers have skyrocketed, and many arrive via WhatsApp. The Ministry of Labor reminds you: be wary of any offer where they ask you for money to start working. These are the red flags:

  • They ask you for money upfront: medical exam, "course," software, kit, or "security deposit." It is illegal—the employer must cover entrance exams.
  • Extremely high salary for few hours, with no experience or requirements. If it sounds too good to be true, it's a lie.
  • First contact via WhatsApp or Telegram from an unknown number, or they add you to a group you never requested.
  • They pay you small sums at the beginning and then ask you to "invest" your own money to earn more: classic pyramid scheme or fake "click-task" scams.
  • Non-corporate email (gmail/hotmail), strange links, or requests for bank details and passwords.
  • They ask for a photo of your ID or bank details before any formal interview.
  • They "hire" you without an interview, without a written contract, and in a hurry for you to start or travel right away.
  • "Employment abroad" with everything paid for but without a clear contract: it could hide human trafficking. According to the 2025 human trafficking report, 81% of Colombian victims were recruited with fake job offers.

How to verify before accepting: confirm that the company exists and call it through its official channel; check if the agency is authorized at serviciodeempleo.gov.co; remember that the Ministry of Labor does not post vacancies; never pay or hand over your ID or bank details; and if something smells fishy, report it at caivirtual.policia.gov.co and, for misuse of your data, before the SIC. Your rights: part-time, service provision, and working from home

Knowing the difference protects you:

  • Part-time employment contract: proportional salary but with all benefits (bonus, severance, vacations, social security).
  • Service provision: you invoice as an independent contractor and cover your own social security; useful for freelancers, but it should not be used to disguise a real employment relationship.
  • Telework and "work from home": regulated by law in Colombia, they include the right to disconnect (Law 2191 of 2022). Working from home does not mean being available 24/7.

In summary

Cali is in its best employment moment in nearly 20 years. Part-time and call center/BPO are the fastest doors if you are starting out; remote work in dollars rewards digital profiles; and the golden rule against scams is simple: a real job never charges you to work. Rely on trusted channels, know your rights, and apply with judgment.
