Country House

A casa campestre is a country home built to live in or escape to comfortably near the city — not to farm like a finca, nor to build from scratch like a lot. It usually sits in a parcelación or gated country community with roads, utilities and sometimes a gatehouse and shared amenities.

In Colombia they cluster in eastern Antioquia near Medellín (Rionegro, Llanogrande, La Ceja, El Retiro), the cool Bogotá savanna (La Calera, Sopó, Tabio) and the warm weekend towns (Anapoima, La Mesa, La Vega), plus southern Cali (Pance, Jamundí) and the Coffee Region (Cerritos). Climate — cold, mild or warm — and drive-time matter as much as price.

Before you visit, check the certificado de tradición y libertad, the land use in the municipal POT, whether it's propiedad horizontal or a parcelación, the water source and its concession, the road type and available internet.
