Filing a Genki Clinic Claim in Colombia on a One-Month Native Plan
Genki Native can now be bought for one month, but a Colombian clinic bill is still pay-first. Here is the contract check, the invoice checklist, the €2,000 pre-notification and the waits a short trial does not unlock.

Short answer: you can now try Genki Native for a single month, but a Colombian clinic visit is still pay-first, and several benefits sit behind waits longer than that month. Back in September we covered the announced one-month minimum. As of 6 October 2026, Genki's public Native page and help articles now state it: a one-month minimum, then monthly cancellation.
This guide is about what happens when you actually walk into a clinic. I will keep three cases apart, because blending them is where people lose money: the new one-month contract, an older 12-month contract, and Genki Traveler, which has its own thresholds.
First, check which contract version you are on
Native conditions dated “1 September 2026” carry a one-month minimum. After that, you cancel monthly, and cover ends at the close of the monthly billing cycle. That applies to applications started after launch.
If your Native contract started earlier, you keep the 12-month minimum until your next insurance year. Then the new conditions apply automatically. Genki's help pages are explicit about this split.
My advice: open the Member Center and confirm your version before you need a doctor, not in the waiting room. It takes two minutes and tells you whether cancelling is a monthly decision or a yearly one.
One more eligibility point. You must be 55 or younger on your start date. After the contract begins, Genki states there is no maximum age.
The timeline before your first visit
You can apply while you are already in Colombia. The earliest start date is 7 days after you complete the application, so a plan bought the day your tooth starts hurting will not help with that tooth.
Claim review looks for symptoms that began after cover was active. Treatment that was a reason for coming to the country, or that was already needed or foreseeable before arrival, is not covered. Pre-existing conditions go through underwriting, and Genki may accept, limit, load or decline them. Native is also not a replacement for statutory health insurance a country may require of you.
Price depends on age, plan, deductible and the medical questionnaire. Genki's published example is Native Basic at €189 per month for someone aged 20 to 24 with no deductible. Treat that as an example only, not your quote.
The deductible choices are €0, €500 or €1,000 per insurance year, and the deductible does not apply to hospitalization. Annual caps are €1,000,000 for Basic and €3,500,000 for Premium.
The waits a one-month trial never finishes
There is no general waiting period, but specific Premium benefits have them:
- Preventive care: 3 months
- Routine dental: 3 months; major dental work including implants: 12 months
- Vision aids: 6 months
- Mental health: 6 months, except a life-threatening emergency
- Maternity: 12 months, except life-threatening complications
So a one-month trial will not pay for a checkup, a dental plan or maternity care. I would skip Native entirely if that was your reason for buying it. For the sublimits, read the Premium dental and preventive guide rather than trusting a summary.
The outpatient checklist
For outpatient care you can use any licensed public or private doctor, clinic or hospital. There is no Genki clinic network and no insurance card to show. You pay the provider, then file under Member Center, Compensation. Squarelife handles reimbursements and decides coverage only after it has your documents.
Before you leave the clinic, get:
- A factura electrónica de venta in your legal name, itemized line by line. A card slip is not that invoice.
- The provider's name and address on the paperwork.
- A medical note with the diagnosis, date of diagnosis, treatment description and dates of service.
Spanish documents are fine. Genki accepts papers in any language. Under DIAN rules an electronic sales invoice names the seller and its NIT, identifies the buyer by NIT or, without one, by name plus ID number, and carries a CUFE. Ask the front desk to put your passport or cédula de extranjería number on it. Do not treat codes such as CIE-10 or RIPS as a Genki requirement; they belong to the Colombian health system.
I would not promise yourself a payout date. Genki does not publish a Native reimbursement clock I would rely on, so keep cash buffer for the bill. Our earlier clinic walkthrough covers the general paperwork visit. This article updates one thing in it: the pre-notification path below.
Disclosure: Colombia Move may earn a commission if you sign up through these links, at no cost to you. You can look at Genki, the Native plan, or Traveler for shorter trips. Confirm your contract version in the Member Center before any treatment.

The €2,000 pre-notification for planned care
This is the step people miss. If a planned outpatient treatment is estimated at €2,000 or more, you must file a “Notification of high costs” in Member Center, under Compensation, then Claims Center. Do it at least 5 days before treatment, and attach an itemized estimate and the doctor's notes.
If you skip it, only 50% of what would otherwise be covered is reimbursed. Care under €2,000 is not automatically covered either.
Keep the thresholds apart. Traveler's matching rule is €1,000, with the same Claims Center path and the same 50% consequence. Do not apply Traveler's number to a Native plan, or the reverse. Also note it says “5 days,” not business days, and an older email-only instruction no longer matches the Claims Center route.
A planned procedure that you already knew you needed before arriving will still hit the foreseeable-treatment exclusion. A notice does not fix that.
If you are admitted or it cannot wait
Inpatient stays and emergencies that cannot be delayed go a different way. Contact MCI Assist at +34 911 599 948 or genki@mciassist.com so they can try to arrange direct payment with the hospital, which only works if the hospital allows it. When emergency assistance is already managing the stay, the outpatient cost-estimate rule does not apply.
Never let a 5-day notice delay urgent care. For how triage and payment work at urgencias, read our emergency room guide.

Planning around Monday 12 October 2026
12 October is the Día de la Diversidad Étnica y Cultural de la Nación Colombiana, a national public holiday under Ley 2347 de 2024. In 2026 it falls on Monday 12 October. I am not saying clinics close. Some do, some do not, so call the specific clinic to confirm its hours. If you have a planned visit that may reach the €2,000 line, file the notice early enough to meet the 5-day rule.
What a one-month trial is actually for
It suits an unexpected outpatient illness that starts after your start date: a stomach bug, an infection, a sprain. It does not suit dental work, checkups, maternity, or anything you already knew you needed. I think of it as a short bridge for a stay that does not justify a long commitment, not a way to fund a planned procedure. Also do not assume it satisfies any visa health requirement; check that with the official source.
Frequently Asked Questions
❓ Can I use Native at a Colombian clinic during a one-month trial?
Yes, after your start date, for covered care at any licensed provider. The one-month minimum is a contract length, not a guarantee that every visit is paid. Symptoms must begin after cover is active, and underwriting and exclusions still apply. (verify with the official source, as accessed)
❓ When does cover start if I apply while already in Colombia?
The earliest start is 7 days after your application is completed. Your claim file also needs symptoms that began after cover was active, so an illness that started before that date will not qualify. (verify with the official source, as accessed)
❓ Do I pay the clinic and claim later?
Yes, for outpatient care. You pay the provider, then file in Member Center under Compensation with the invoice and the medical note. There is no Genki clinic network and no card is needed at the visit. (verify with the official source, as accessed)
❓ What if the visit may cost €2,000 or more?
File a Notification of high costs in Claims Center at least 5 days before treatment, with an itemized estimate and doctor's notes. Missing it limits reimbursement to 50% of the amount otherwise covered. (verify with the official source, as accessed)
❓ Is a card slip enough in Colombia?
No. Ask for a DIAN factura electrónica de venta in your legal name with itemized charges. Genki accepts Spanish paperwork, but it also wants the provider's name and address and a medical note with diagnosis and dates. (verify with the official source, as accessed)
❓ Does one month include dental, checkups or maternity?
No. Those Premium benefits have waits of 3, 6 or 12 months depending on the item, so a one-month trial does not unlock them. Maternity waits 12 months, except life-threatening complications. (verify with the official source, as accessed)
❓ What changes if I am admitted overnight?
Contact MCI Assist at +34 911 599 948 or genki@mciassist.com so they can try to arrange hospital billing. Use that path instead of the outpatient €2,000 notice when emergency assistance is already managing the stay. (verify with the official source, as accessed)
