Genki Native for Couples and Children Under 20 in Colombia

Genki Native has no family bundle: each partner and child gets a separate contract. Here is how underwriting, newborns, plans and nationality work for a household in Colombia.

Short answer: yes, a partner and children under 20 can be covered by Genki Native, but not as one family policy. Each person gets an individual contract under one account, with their own price, deductible, start date and cancellation. There is no family or group discount. As of 13 October 2026, new applications also show a one-month minimum on Genki's own pages.

That last sentence is where most couples get tripped up, so let me lay out the mechanics before you open a quote form.

What "family" actually means on Native

You log in to one Member Center, but behind it sit separate contracts. Genki states there is no family or group discount, and adding or removing someone does not change anyone else's price or terms. Billing is monthly per person. You get one combined invoice only when billing dates happen to match, which is not guaranteed if you add your partner or child later.

A practical upside: cancelling one person does not cancel the others. The downside is that nothing is shared. Each person has their own deductible (€0, €500 or €1,000 per insurance year, never applied to hospitalization) and their own annual cap, €1,000,000 on Basic or €3,500,000 on Premium. Do not budget as if the household pools one limit.

On price, the only figure Genki publishes on its product page is Basic at €189 per month for a person aged 20 to 24 with no deductible. Prices change with age, Basic or Premium, and deductible. I will not give you a number for a partner or a child, because the public pages do not carry an under-20 rate card. Enter each person's age in the signup flow for the live quote.

Children under 20 and newborns

There is no separate under-20 product. A child uses the same application as an adult, priced on that child's age. You can join at 55 or younger on the start date, after which there is no maximum age. Ordinary start dates run from 7 days to 90 days after you apply, and an accepted order that is not paid expires after 7 days.

Newborns follow two paths:

  • Parent has had Native for at least 3 months and is with the baby at birth: the child can be added without the medical questionnaire. Apply within 2 months of birth and cover can start retroactively from the birth date.
  • Neither parent has 3 months of Native at the birth: the baby can be added from 2 months old and must complete the questionnaire.

Either way, the baby cannot simply be tacked onto a parent's contract. It is a new one.

Underwriting comes before cover

Every applicant, partner and child included, fills in a medical questionnaire covering current conditions, past illness or injury and ongoing treatment. Squarelife is the insurer and decides; Genki is the agent and policyholder of the group policy. The decision is instant and has four outcomes: accepted as is, accepted with exclusions, accepted with a higher premium, or rejected.

Here is the part I would flag in red. A rejection blocks new applications from the same account for a few months. Genki does not give a number, so do not assume one. Changing answers to try again can lock the application, and incomplete answers can mean a denied claim, cancellation or retrospective termination. If a child's answers are a grey area, write to help@genki.world before you resubmit anything. Do not use a household member as a test application.

One more honest downside: you cannot apply for the healthy people first and sort out the complicated one later without consequences if that person's case ends up blocking the account. Think about who applies, and in what order, before you start.

The one-month minimum, and what it does not unlock

Conditions version "1 September 2026" launched in late September 2026. For contracts started on it, the minimum is one month from that person's start date, then you cancel monthly and cover ends at the close of the monthly cycle. I covered the earlier announcement in this post; the rule now appears on Genki's help pages. Contracts that started earlier keep a 12-month minimum until the next insurance year, when the new conditions apply automatically.

A short minimum is a contract length, not a shortcut. It does not waive underwriting, exclusions or waiting periods. If you only need a defined, healthy stay, read the Traveler versus Native comparison first. If you are short on housing for that stay, temporary rentals are thin on Colombia Move right now: 3 active listings on 13 October 2026.

Which plan matters for a household

Basic covers medically necessary illness and accident care within its cap, plus life-threatening maternity complications. Premium adds the family-relevant extras, each with limits and waits counted from the start date:

  • Preventive care: €500 per year, 3-month wait.
  • Dental: €3,000 per year, cleaning up to €200. Basic dental waits 3 months, major dental including implants 12 months; waived for accident treatment proved by a doctor or police report.
  • Vision aids: €250 per year, 6-month wait.
  • Alternative care: €500 per year.
  • Mental health: 6-month wait, except a life-threatening emergency.
  • Family hospital visits: €5,000 per year with prior approval.
  • Babysitting: €45 per day for up to 7 days.
  • Parent bed for a hospitalized child: Premium, with prior approval.

Details on dental and preventive are in the Premium dental guide. For maternity, Premium benefits (routine prenatal care, childbirth, postnatal care) carry a 12-month wait. Life-threatening complications and medically indicated termination in a life-threatening emergency are covered from day one on both plans. Basic has no routine maternity. So a one-month plan will not pay for a birth, checkups or glasses.

Also not covered: treatment that was the reason you traveled, or that was already needed or foreseeable before arrival. Do not plan a procedure in Colombia around Native.

Colombian and non-Colombian members of one household

For a non-Colombian, Colombia falls under ordinary full worldwide cover with no time cap. A Colombian spouse or child falls under the nationality rule, judged per person. On Premium, cover at home has no time limit. On Basic, it applies only to a visit of up to 182 days after at least 91 consecutive days outside Colombia. A mixed household can therefore have different rules for each member, and a Colombian partner on Basic is the case to check carefully.

The USA is separate: emergency-only, 91 days of cover after 91 consecutive days outside, annual caps of €250,000 Basic and €500,000 Premium, follow-up caps of €12,500 Basic and €25,000 Premium per emergency, and a 3-month waiting period.

Native is not a replacement for statutory health insurance a country may require. I will not tell you it satisfies a Colombian visa, EPS or prepaid medicine rule; check that with the relevant authority. For visa-insurance context, see our digital nomad review.

Using it at a clinic

You can go to any licensed public or private provider. Outpatient care is pay-first, then claim; keep the diagnosis, treatment, dates and itemized invoices. If planned outpatient treatment is €2,000 or more, pre-notify at least 5 days ahead, or reimbursement drops to 50% of what would otherwise be covered. The invoice walkthrough is in the clinic claims guide.

For an overnight stay, report it to the 24/7 assistance line so the hospital can be paid directly when the case is covered: +34 911 599 948 or genki@mciassist.com. A partner or parent can make that call for the patient.

Who should get a quote now

If you are building an open-ended life in Colombia with a partner or a child, run each person's age through the Genki Native quote, and answer every questionnaire honestly and together. If your stay is short and everyone is healthy, compare the alternatives first. Conditions checked against Genki's pages on 13 October 2026; confirm before you apply.

Frequently Asked Questions

❓ Can I put my partner and child on my Genki Native policy?

No. Each person gets a separate contract under one account, and Genki states there is no family or group discount. Each contract has its own age-based price, plan, deductible and start date. Cancelling one person does not cancel the others (verify with the official source, as accessed).

❓ Is Genki Native cheaper for someone under 20?

Genki prices by the applicant's age at signup and does not publish a fixed under-20 rate. The only public example is Basic at €189 per month for ages 20 to 24 with no deductible. Enter the child's age for a live quote (verify with the official source, as accessed).

❓ Does the one-month minimum apply to every family member?

Yes, for each new contract started under the "1 September 2026" conditions, counted from that person's start date. An older parent contract can still be inside a 12-month minimum until its next insurance year, when the new conditions apply automatically (verify with the official source, as accessed).

❓ What if my child's medical questionnaire is declined?

That child is not covered, and a rejection blocks new applications from the same account for a few months. Do not keep resubmitting changed answers, since that can lock the application. Write to Genki support first (verify with the official source, as accessed).

❓ Does a one-month plan cover pregnancy or a newborn in Colombia?

Routine Premium maternity has a 12-month wait. A newborn is a new contract, via the 3-month parent rule or the questionnaire path from 2 months old. Life-threatening complications are covered from day one on Basic and Premium (verify with the official source, as accessed).

❓ Do we pay the clinic first in Colombia?

For outpatient visits, yes: pay, then claim with itemized invoices. For an overnight hospital stay, call the 24/7 assistance line so direct payment can be arranged when covered. A parent or partner can make the call (verify with the official source, as accessed).
