Where to sell used refrigeration compressors and industrial machinery in Colombia
A guide for technicians and workshops selling a used refrigeration compressor: what to copy from the nameplate, how to describe its condition without dangerous tests, how to deliver it, and when the warranty applies.

Quick answer: Post the compressor with a photo of the nameplate, the word "used" next to the title or the price, the condition you actually know, and the delivery condition (standing upright, with caps on). With that, a technician can decide without making a wasted trip.
Buyers are waiting for commercial refrigeration scroll compressor stock. According to active listings on Colombia Move (October 2026), the appliances category has 24 active listings, and yet an internal search for a specific compressor model left two buyers waiting. The gap isn't the category: it's listings with verifiable technical specifications.
What to copy from the nameplate (and what not to make up)
The nameplate is your best sales argument. Photograph it straight on, in good light, and write in the listing: brand, complete model, refrigerant, volts, phases, hertz, and serial number. Also note whether the suction and discharge caps are still in place.
A real example of why it matters: the internal search "ZP51K6E-TFS-130" was not verified as a Copeland suffix. The LennoxPros listing (consulted on October 14, 2026) lists the ZP51K6E-TF5-130 as an R-410A scroll, 52,300 BTUH, 200-230 VAC, three-phase, 60 Hz, with 110 A locked rotor. But that listing is for the TF5, not the TFS. My advice: copy what your nameplate says, don't "correct" the suffix by intuition.
Also, electrical codes are not interchangeable. In Copeland's reference guide, TF5 is three-phase 200/230 V at 60 Hz, TFD is three-phase 460 V, and PFV is single-phase 208/230 V. The buyer must compare your nameplate with their power supply; a 460 V unit is not advertised as if it works on any network. The Ministry of Mines and Energy describes, in a resolution from June 2025, general-use low-voltage three-phase networks that do not exceed 208 V for basic installations, so a TFD may not match their supply. Whoever publishes the kVA and phase of an electrical unit does the same thing we explain in selling used power units in Colombia.
How to describe condition without inventing evidence
This is where I would resist the instinct to "test it so they can see it works." Copeland's documents warn that the compressor must not be run with air: the mixture of air and oil at high temperature can explode (diesel effect). And running it with nitrogen can damage the scroll tips. That test is done by whoever installs it, not the seller, and we don't open refrigerant circuits.
What you can honestly declare:
- Whether it was running in the equipment it came out of.
- Whether there are visible oil leaks.
- Whether the terminals are clean or burned.
- Operating hours, only if you have them recorded.
- Which accessories are missing.
The downside: a listing this sober attracts fewer casual browsers but also fewer "I'll take it now" buyers. That's the price of not promising what you can't prove. If you also clear out refrigerators or freezers from a business, see how to sell used food service equipment.
Delivery and payment: upright, capped, and confirmed
Copeland's assembly instructions for the K6 family call for moving the compressor in an upright position. It leaves the factory charged with dry air at 1.35 to 1.5 bar, not nitrogen. Therefore:
- Deliver it standing upright, never lying down.
- Don't use the suction or discharge lines as a handle.
- Don't remove the caps; that's for the installer to do.
- Write in the listing who pays for transport and who picks it up. There is no official rate to quote; it's negotiated.
For payment, don't release the equipment against an unconfirmed receipt: verified transfer in your account, serial number on the receipt, and delivery afterward. Heavy equipment logistics is similar to that for used scaffolding, mixers, and formwork.

"Used," warranty, and when the consumer rule doesn't apply
If you offer the equipment publicly to consumers, the SIC's External Circular 008 of 2022 requires that "used" be in Spanish, next to the name or price, and visible before deciding. Put the word in the title and you're done.
Law 1480 of 2011 (art. 8) allows selling a used item without warranty only if the consumer is informed and accepts it in writing; otherwise, the legal term is three months. Note: a consumer is someone who acquires as the final recipient for a need not intrinsically linked to their economic activity. A technician who buys the compressor for their trade may fall outside this. Don't present the three months as automatic, but still record the condition and the "no warranty" in writing.
Some good news: Book 4 of the RETIE (Resolution 40284 of June 2026) requires a supplier declaration for used items only for motors or generators above 150 kVA and transformers above 1,000 kVA. It is not a proven requirement for a small scroll compressor. For another workshop tool, read selling used construction power tools.
Frequently asked questions
❓ Is the ZP51K6E-TFS-130 the same as the ZP51K6E-TF5-130?
Don't assume it: post the exact code from your nameplate. The LennoxPros listing describes the TF5 as three-phase 200-230 V at 60 Hz, but the TFS suffix did not appear in the Copeland nomenclature reviewed (verify with the official source).
❓ How much does a used compressor cost, or what price should I post it at?
There is no official rate or reliable reference price for this equipment. Compare listings of identical models, state the condition and missing accessories, and set your price based on that information. Avoid copying prices from foreign catalogs (verify with the official source).
❓ How do I sell safely and avoid scams?
Collect payment by verified transfer into your account before delivering, and don't release the equipment against a simple receipt. Put the serial number on the receipt and deliver the compressor capped and upright, with the nameplate in view (verify with the official source).
❓ Where can I post and sell a used refrigeration compressor?
You can use WhatsApp groups of technicians, machinery portals, or the appliances category of Colombia Move, where you post for free with nameplate photos and direct contact. Include the complete model, volts, phases, and condition.
❓ Can I sell it without warranty?
To a consumer, only if you inform them and they accept it in writing; otherwise, the law sets three months. A workshop that buys it for its trade may not be a consumer, so don't present that rule as automatic (verify with the official source).
❓ How do I transport it without damaging the scroll?
Upright, with the caps on, and without lifting it by the lines. According to Copeland's instructions for the K6 family, the factory charge is dry air at 1.35-1.5 bar, not nitrogen, and it must not be run on air (verify with the official source).
