Quick answer: to sell a used cat gym or litter box you need three things: measurements in centimeters, photos that show the wear, and an honest sentence about the smell. Post it in the Pet Accessories category and hand it over in person.
A three-level cat gym won't fit in the elevator, and the buyer knows that before writing to you. That's why the first questions are always the same: how tall is it, does it come apart, does the base wobble, does it smell? If your listing already answers that, you save half a dozen messages and the merely curious.
What this guide covers and what it doesn't
Here we talk about bulky items: scratching post, tree or multi-platform cat gym, litter box and carrier. Beds, clothing, harnesses and leashes already have their own guide: how to sell pet accessories, beds and clothing. I won't repeat it.
Food and medicine aren't covered either. And watch out: you don't sell the cat along with the furniture. Law 1774 of 2016, article 1, says animals are sentient beings and not objects. Your listing is only the accessory.
If what you want is to look after other people's cats while they travel, that's a service and it's separate; check how to offer pet walking and home care services. Don't mix it into the furniture listing.
The item sheet: what the buyer wants to read
Get out the measuring tape. A listing that says "big, good condition" doesn't sell; one with numbers does.
- Cat gym or tree: total height, height of each platform, post diameter, condition of the sisal (smooth, frayed, how much is missing), whether the base wobbles and whether it comes apart.
- Litter box: external and internal measurements, material, whether it has a lid or door and whether it closes properly, and how it smells today.
- Carrier: internal measurements, type of closure, condition of the hinges and grille, and whether it can be secured with a seatbelt.
Only list the brand if you can read it on the item. If you can't see it, don't make it up.
Photos that actually help
Take a photo of the whole item on the floor, another with the measuring tape beside it, one of the post up close, another of the loose joint, and one of the inside of the litter box and the carrier. Show the defect: an honest photo of worn sisal builds more trust than ten pretty photos that hide it. Someone who arrives and finds something different leaves without buying and costs you the afternoon.

Hygiene without promises
Here's what almost everyone exaggerates. A cat marks with its scent when it scratches and will mark again where it smells another cat, according to the Cornell Feline Health Center (page updated in 2015). So the smell has to be neutralized, not just covered with perfume. Avoid ammonia or vinegar cleaners on urine stains, because they smell precisely like urine.
What you can do: vacuum the platforms, wash the covers according to the label, dry everything very well and wash the litter box with mild detergent. If the box still smells or is cracked, the honest thing is to lower the price and say so, or replace it.
What you shouldn't write: "pheromone-free", "disinfected" or "parasite-free". You can't prove it, and you can't promise the buyer's cat will accept the item. Write what you washed and what smell remains. Period.
What the law says, briefly
This is general guidance, not legal advice. Law 1480 of 2011 defines a supplier as whoever sells products habitually, with or without profit motive. If you resell frequently and the used product no longer has legal warranty, you can only sell it without warranty if you disclose this and the consumer accepts it in writing; if that record is missing, a three-month warranty is understood to apply. An occasional sale between private individuals isn't described in that definition, but you still have to disclose the defects you know about.
Also, the Civil Code provides for redhibitory action for hidden defects: rescission or price reduction if the defect existed at the time of sale and wasn't disclosed. For furniture it lasts six months from actual delivery, and a "sold as is" doesn't cover a defect you knew about. For details, read the guide to legal warranty for used products.
The Monday holiday bridge of October 12, 2026
October 12 is a paid holiday and in 2026 it falls on a Monday, so there is no shifting of the date according to Law 51 of 1983. If you stay home over that long weekend, use it to measure, photograph, wash and get the cat gym ready to hand over in person, instead of promising a shipment that then becomes complicated.
Where to post and how to hand it over
The right place for the furniture is the Pet Accessories category, not Cats: that one is for the animal. On October 8, 2026, according to Colombia Move, both were at zero listings, and the Pets section had only 3 active listings, all for dogs in Medellín. In other words, anyone looking for a used tree will find almost nothing. That inventory changes, but right now there's room. You can see the overview in the Pets section. For the rest of the house, the general guide is where to sell used items in Colombia.
For handing over, the most sensible option with a bulky item is pickup. Who pays for local transport is agreed in the listing. Don't release the item until you confirm payment in your account, and be wary of advance payments, codes or screenshot receipts.
Frequently asked questions
❓ Where do I post a used cat gym or litter box?
In the Pet Accessories category, not Cats. That category is for animals, not feline furniture, and on October 8, 2026 both were at zero listings on Colombia Move. Put real measurements and photos in the listing.
❓ How much should I ask for a used scratching post or cat gym?
There is no official price for these items. Compare with others of the same type and wear, and lower the value if it smells, the post is loose or the base wobbles. A declared defect with a photo is forgiven more easily than a hidden one (verify with the official source).
❓ How do I sell safely and avoid scams?
Hand it over in person, confirm payment in your account before releasing the item, and don't accept advance payments, codes or screenshots as proof. Meet in a visible place and have someone with you if the furniture is large.
❓ If I sell it only once, do I have to give three months of warranty?
The three months apply to the habitual supplier who doesn't get written acceptance of a sale without warranty. An occasional sale isn't described that way in Law 1480, but you still must disclose the defects you know about. This is general guidance (verify with the official source).
❓ Can I write that it's pheromone-free or disinfected?
No, if you can't prove it. Describe what you washed, with what, and what smell remains. Washing and drying doesn't authorize you to promise the buyer's cat will accept the item or that it's free of parasites.
❓ Who pays for transporting a large tree?
Buyer and seller agree, and with a bulky item it's normal for the buyer to pick it up. There is no official rate to quote; write in the listing who takes on the transport (verify with the official source).
❓ Can I sell the cat together with the furniture?
Not in this guide. According to Law 1774 of 2016, animals are sentient beings and not objects. Your listing should be only the accessory, with its measurements, photos and condition (verify with the official source).
