Who needs it
Any Colombian citizen traveling abroad, including dual nationals: by law they must enter and leave Colombia as Colombians, so they need a Colombian passport.
What you need
- Original, valid cédula de ciudadanía (yellow hologram card or the digital cédula).
- If you don't have the cédula: the original Registraduría receipt (contraseña); a contraseña for data correction is not accepted.
- Your previous passport, if you have one. If it was lost or stolen, you declare it under oath at the office.
- Minors: certified copy of the birth certificate (registro civil) and one parent present with their cédula.
- No photos needed: the photo, fingerprints and signature are taken at the office.
Step by step
- 1Choose where: Sede Norte (Av. 19 No. 98-03) or Sede Centro (Calle 12C No. 8-27) in Bogotá, a CADE/SuperCADE, or your department's gobernación.
- 2No appointment is needed at Sede Norte or Centro. Red CADE requires one: book it at agendacitas.cancilleria.gov.co using document type CC.
- 3Go in person with your documents; your photo, fingerprints and signature are captured there.
- 4Pay when the officer tells you to: Visa/Mastercard card, the Banco GNB Sudameris branch on site, PSE or Servibanca.
- 5Pick it up in person with your cédula and check that all printed data is correct before leaving.
Tips and common mistakes
- If your current passport is electronic (with chip) and was issued after November 17, 2017, you can request the replacement online at tramitesmre.cancilleria.gov.co and only go in to pick it up.
- Nequi, Daviplata and Codensa cards are not accepted. If you generate a payment reference, pay it the same day.
- You have 6 months to collect it or it is cancelled and you pay again. If the data page has an error, you have 1 month to request a replacement.
- When you replace your passport, visas in the old one stay valid: you get the cancelled old passport back and should travel with both.
