Tips and common mistakes

Before paying for a replacement, check whether someone handed in your cédula on the National Police's recovered documents portal.
If your cédula was stolen, report it to the Fiscalía or Police to protect yourself from identity theft.
While the replacement arrives, the contraseña (receipt) issued by the Registraduría works as temporary proof for many procedures.
Pay only through official Registraduría channels; there are no authorized agents who charge to 'speed up' the replacement.
