If you sell through WhatsApp, Instagram or Marketplace, you already know this: a buyer from another city almost never wants to transfer money to a stranger. They're afraid of paying and getting nothing. Cash on delivery pago contraentrega solves that: the carrier collects payment at the door and then deposits the money to you. For the seller, it means more orders from other cities, but also costs and returns that you should have clear before shipping the first package.

This guide is for sellers: how the collection works, what each carrier offers, what costs to add to the price and how to reduce rejected packages.

How selling cash on delivery works, step by step

  1. You agree on the sale by chat. Product, price, destination city and total to collect at the door.
  2. You ship with the collection service. At the carrier's branch (or when scheduling the pickup) you indicate that the shipment is cash on delivery and the amount the courier must collect.
  3. The carrier delivers and collects. The buyer pays on receipt. Depending on the company, they can pay in cash or by digital means.
  4. They deposit the collected amount to you. The carrier transfers the amount collected to the account you registered, usually after deducting its commission.

If the buyer doesn't receive or doesn't pay, the package returns to you, and that return trip usually has a cost. That is the main risk of selling cash on delivery, which is why half of this guide is about how to avoid it.

What the carriers offer

The big carriers in the country offer cash on delivery collection, but each one calls it something different and requires a different registration. This is what they publish:

  • Interrapidísimo – "Pago en Casa". On its service page (checked in October 2026) it says you create an account in its Portal Clientes, link a bank account, key or wallet, and activate Pago en Casa; then you request it at a sales point or when scheduling the pickup. It says your customer pays when they review their product and that the money reaches you "within minutes" after delivery. Rates are in its rate schedule.
  • Coordinadora. In addition to traditional collection at the door, in 2024 the company introduced advance collection: when the shipment goes out for delivery, the recipient receives a WhatsApp message with the amount and a payment link. It also announced installment credit payments with a fintech. It created this because it detected problems with cash, card readers and absent recipients.
  • Servientrega, Envía and others. They also offer cash on delivery collection. The conditions (registration, commission, transfer period, maximum amount) are checked at a branch or with a sales advisor, so ask before your first shipment.

Before choosing, ask each one the same thing: collection commission, how long they take to transfer to you, maximum amount per shipment, how much a return costs and whether the buyer can review before paying. With those five answers you can compare.

The costs you must add to the price

Selling cash on delivery is not free for the seller. Before publishing a price, do the math with three costs:

  • Shipping. The normal shipping cost based on weight, size and destination. Decide whether the buyer pays it, whether you assume it (and advertise it as free shipping), or whether it is agreed case by case.
  • Collection commission. What the carrier charges for receiving the money on your behalf. It varies by company and by the amount collected.
  • Return risk. If a package comes back, you paid the outbound shipping and possibly the return without selling anything. Spread across all your sales, that cost also adds up.

There are two common ways to cover it: raise the price of all your products slightly, or charge shipping plus the commission separately and state it clearly in the listing. What doesn't work is surprising the buyer at the door with a total different from what was agreed: it's the perfect recipe for a rejection.

How to avoid having packages returned

Most rejections have known causes: the buyer didn't have the money that day, changed their mind, the address was incomplete or nobody was home. Almost all of them can be prevented:

  1. Confirm before shipping. A call or a short audio on WhatsApp: "It arrives tomorrow or the day after, the total is so many pesos, will you be there?". Someone who doesn't answer the confirmation probably won't receive it either.
  2. Ask for the complete address. Neighborhood, tower, apartment, complex and a landmark. Also ask for the full name and a phone number that answers.
  3. Agree on the exact total in writing. Product, shipping and commission, all in one number. Have the buyer see it in the chat before the package goes out.
  4. Show the real product. Your own photos, with visible defects if it has any. If the buyer can review before paying, make sure what they see matches what they expected.
  5. Send the tracking guide as soon as you ship. That way the buyer knows it's on its way and can track it on the carrier's website.
  6. Handle issues quickly. If the carrier reports "incorrect address" or "recipient absent", message the buyer that same day to reschedule before the package is returned.

With buyers who have already rejected a package before, or orders that aren't confirmed, you can ask for the shipping payment in advance and collect only the product at the door. Say so clearly and from the start, not at the last minute.

Precautions for the seller

  • Don't accept off-the-books changes in value. If the buyer asks "charge me less on the guide and I'll transfer you the rest", don't do it: the amount collected must match what was agreed.
  • Check the transfer. Compare each deposit with your delivered guides. An error is easier to claim within a few days than at the end of the month.
  • If you receive cash in person at some point, check the bills. Here is a guide to identifying counterfeit bills.
  • Keep the conversations and the guides. If there is a dispute with the buyer or the carrier, they are your backup.

Where to find buyers from other cities

Offering cash on delivery only works if buyers from outside your city can see you. On Colombia Move you can mark on any sales listing "I ship nationwide" and "I accept cash on delivery". With that, your product appears in the "With shipping" filter and in the row of products shipped from other cities, with a green 💵 badge that makes it stand out. With shipping and in the row of products shipped from other cities, with a green 💵 badge that makes it stand out.

As of October 9, 2026, of 838 active listings on Colombia Move, 72 ship nationwide and 48 accept cash on delivery. Most of the latter are toys and baby items. In clothing, phones, accessories, tools or spare parts there is still little cash on delivery supply, so a new listing has less competition to stand out. If you want the details of how the buyer sees it, we explain it in cash on delivery and nationwide shipping.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be a company to sell cash on delivery?

Not necessarily. Interrapidísimo, for example, asks you to create an account in its Portal Clientes and link a bank account, key or wallet, according to its Pago en Casa page (October 2026). Each carrier has its own requirements, so confirm them at a branch before your first shipment.

How long does it take for the collected money to reach me?

It depends on the carrier. Interrapidísimo says on its Pago en Casa page (October 2026) that it deposits within minutes after delivery. Others transfer in cycles, so ask for the exact period when you register.

Is it safe to sell cash on delivery if the buyer doesn't receive?

Your main risk is not losing the product but paying extra shipping: if the buyer doesn't receive, the package returns to you and the return usually has a cost. That's why it's best to confirm the order, the address and the total by chat or call before shipping, and to respond quickly when the carrier reports an issue.

Can the buyer review the product before paying?

It depends on the carrier. Interrapidísimo's Pago en Casa service says the customer pays when they review their product (October 2026). With other companies, ask about the conditions and explain them to the buyer before shipping.

Who pays the collection commission?

The carrier charges it to the seller, usually by deducting it from the transfer. You decide whether to absorb it or include it in the price or the shipping; what matters is that the total the buyer pays is agreed before dispatch.

Does it cost anything to post with cash on delivery on Colombia Move?

No. Posting is free and we don't charge a commission on the sale or the shipping (October 2026). You only pay the carrier its shipping and its collection commission.
