We Just Launched Free Classifieds for Colombia — Here's Why

After months of building our free job board for Colombia, we kept hearing the same thing: "Can I post my apartment for rent here?" or "Where do I sell my laptop?"

The answer was always the same: Facebook groups, WhatsApp chats, or sketchy websites with zero organization. Colombia didn't have a clean, modern classifieds platform. So we built one.

Today we're launching Colombia Move — a free classifieds platform for housing and electronics, built from the ground up, available in both Spanish and English.

Why We Built This

Honestly? Because I needed it myself.

Every time I looked for an apartment in Medellín or wanted to buy a used laptop, I ended up scrolling through chaotic Facebook groups with no filters, no categories, and posts from 6 months ago mixed in with today's. The few classifieds sites that exist in Colombia feel like they were built in 2008 and forgotten.

Nobody was building something great. So rather than wait for someone else to solve it, we decided to build exactly what we wanted — and open it up for everyone.

Housing: Rent, Buy, or Share

Whether you're looking for an apartment in Bogotá, a house in Cartagena, or a shared room in Medellín — you can find it (or post it) for free. We have 8 housing categories:

• Apartments for rent and sale
• Houses for rent and sale
• Rooms and shared housing
• Offices and commercial spaces
• Farms and land
• Short-term rentals

Pricing adapts to context — rental listings show monthly/weekly/daily rates, while sale listings show a fixed price. No more guessing what "$2M" means when there's no label.

Electronics: Buy and Sell Without the Chaos

Phones, laptops, consoles, cameras, appliances — 8 categories covering the tech you actually buy and sell in Colombia. List in COP, USD, or even crypto. Upload up to 10 photos per listing, all automatically compressed so the site stays fast.

Built for Everyone: Spanish and English

Colombia's expat community is growing fast, and they deserve a platform they can actually use. That's why we built two versions:

• colombiamove.com — Spanish by default, for locals and Spanish speakers
• colombiamove.com — English by default, for expats and digital nomads

Both serve the same listings. You can toggle between languages anytime. And if you post in both Spanish and English, your listing reaches everyone.

We didn't just throw up a WordPress plugin and call it a day. This platform was built from scratch with Next.js, PostgreSQL, and a lot of care for the details:

• No account needed to browse — sign up only when you post
• Magic link login — no passwords to remember
• Smart price fields that adapt to what you're posting (rent vs sale vs item)
• Up to 10 photos per listing, auto-compressed to keep things fast
• Multiple contact methods — WhatsApp, email, phone, Messenger
• Save favorites, share on social media, get alerts for new listings
• Dark mode because we're not savages
• Completely free — no fees, no premium tiers, no catches

Filling a Gap Nobody Else Is Filling

Let's be real: classifieds in Colombia are a mess. OLX left. Facebook groups are unmoderated chaos. MercadoLibre is fine for buying products from stores but terrible for person-to-person classifieds. And the local options? Most haven't been updated since smartphones were a novelty.

We're starting with housing and electronics because those are the two categories people need most. But this is just the beginning — we'll be adding more categories based on what you tell us you need.
