About Colombia Move

Colombia Is Calling — We Help You Answer

Something is happening in Colombia. Quietly at first, then all at once. Expats from London, New York, Berlin, Sydney, and São Paulo are landing in Medellín, unpacking their bags, and wondering why they didn't do this sooner. They're discovering a country of extraordinary warmth, world-class coffee, eternal spring weather, and a cost of living that gives them their life back.

But moving to a new country — any country — is complicated. The visa rules change. The neighborhoods have reputations that don't match reality. The banks have their own rules for foreigners. The property market operates differently than anything you've dealt with before. And the internet is full of outdated blog posts written by people who passed through for two weeks and called themselves experts.

Colombia Move exists because you deserve better than that.

What We Are

Colombia Move is a publication built for people who are serious about making Colombia their home. Not visiting. Not testing the waters for a long weekend. Actually moving — putting down roots, building a life, doing it right.

We cover everything that matters: how to get the right visa for your situation, which neighborhoods actually suit your lifestyle, what things genuinely cost when you live like a local, how to buy property as a foreigner, and what daily life looks like once the excitement of arrival settles into something real and sustainable.

Our content is built for expats from everywhere — whether you're coming from the US, the UK, Australia, Germany, Canada, or anywhere else in the world. Colombia does not belong to one nationality, and neither does this site.

Built From Real Experience

This site was built by someone who made the move. After years in the United States, the decision was made to trade it all in for Medellín — the City of Eternal Spring. The kind of city that changes how you think about what a city can be.

That experience — navigating the visa process firsthand, learning which barrios to consider and which to avoid, figuring out the banking system, watching the skyline from an apartment that costs a fraction of what a comparable place would back home — is the foundation of everything published here.

We don't recycle other people's research. We write from the ground up, updated regularly, and held to a standard we'd want for ourselves when we were still searching for answers.

What You'll Find Here

Colombia Move covers the full picture of relocating to Colombia:

Visas & Immigration — From the Digital Nomad Visa to the Resident Visa and everything in between. We share information on requirements, timelines, and paperwork based on real experience and research. This is not legal advice — for your specific situation, always consult a licensed immigration attorney. But we'll help you show up to that conversation informed.

Cost of Living — Real numbers. What rent actually costs in Medellín, Bogotá, Cartagena, and beyond. What you'll spend on food, transport, health insurance, and the things that make life worth living.

Neighborhoods — Every city has layers. We go deep on the barrios so you know whether you belong in El Poblado, Laureles, Envigado, La Candelaria, Getsemaní, or somewhere off the tourist map entirely.

Property & Real Estate — Buying property in Colombia as a foreigner is absolutely possible — and it can be one of the smartest financial moves you make. We explain how it works, what to watch out for, and how to do it safely.

Expat Life — The practical stuff that nobody warns you about. Opening a bank account, getting a Colombian SIM card, navigating the healthcare system, learning enough Spanish to hold your own, making friends in a new city.

This Is Your Move

Colombia doesn't ask much of the people who come here. It asks that you show up open, that you engage with it honestly, and that you give it a real chance. In return, it tends to give back more than most people expect.

If you're thinking about making the move, you're already closer than you think. Colombia Move is here to close the gap.

Welcome. Let's get you there.
